words + writing

i write words for art, brands, and systems that care.

sometimes that means an exhibition text or artist statement—other times, a brand voice or newsletter that just feels human. i believe language should hold space for pause and imperfection—the way we actually think and speak.

and yes, i overuse the em dash—because we all need moments to breathe, to let a thought wander, to break the monotony. communication, especially in a world full of neurodivergent minds, should offer a bit of reprieve—not demand fluency in speed.

please read on for: artist statements, brand voice, and exhibition writing.

artist statement

what’s held, what’s repaired, what’s left behind.
blue lane oliver (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist and creative manager exploring systems of care, queerness, and maintenance. their work moves between painting, fiber, and writing—always orbiting the question of how things (and people) stay together.

grounded in a midwestern sense of humor and sustainability, their practice examines the soft infrastructure of belonging: how we build homes from temporary things, and how repair itself becomes a form of love.

exhibition text — “their thresholds”

Queerness is never still. It moves, resists, and redefines the spaces it touches — from bodies and homes to borders, communities, and culture at large. This exhibition brings together queer and trans artists whose practices exist in that liminal zone: crossing and re-crossing boundaries, holding contradictions, and refusing erasure.

At a time when our pronouns, identities, and very lives are politicized, Their Thresholds insists on presence. It reflects on how queer people create permanence in places that were never built for us — through chosen family, through language, through art — and how our existence leaves permanent marks of resistance and care. Each work becomes both an offering and a crossing, a reminder that we cannot be unwritten. Together, these artists create a threshold of their own: a space to gather, to imagine, and to insist on being.
