Typically abstract, their work explores: nascency, motherhood, texture/grit, preservation, sexuality, kinship, genealogy + the experience/existence of the places we call “home”.
A collection of work with a palette inspired by rosacea, acne, blemishes, freckles, birthmarks, scars, and the tan lines from the sunshine coast.
Exploring her own skin and its ailments; the intimate details, crevices, and subjectivity of existing in one’s own skin, and the self that occupies this shell/capsule/sack of skin.
This body of work was displayed in a group show, “Only the shallow know themselves…” in February 2019 at the Albertine Monroe-Brown Gallery in Kalamazoo MI.
Sophie is currently working on a new painting series expected to be completed by Summer 2023.
